THIS IS HORSESHIT. HORSESHIT! THE ART WAS THE MOST TERRIFYING THING ABOUT THESE BOOKS!

The new art is NOWHERE NEAR the creepiness of the original! D:

ARE YOU KIDDING

ARE YOU KIDDING

What is wrong with them? Not that the new artist isn’t good, he’s just not scary. The stories themselves are creepy, especially to a kid who hasn’t heard them before, but the art…that shit scared the living piss out of a generation of children.

Yeah, I’m calling bullshit, too. The original art is amazing and the new art is painfully generic in comparison.

OH HELL MOTHERFUCKIN NO

o. m. g. someone done fucked up. seriously. that art can still, to this day, freak me out. toning it down to look like every other “scary” kids book takes away so much. i am pissed because of reasons >:O

Getting through those books was a fucking rite of passage and it was because of Gammell’s amazingly fucked up drawings and anyone who says different is talking out their ass.

Like, look. I still remember one of those stories, about a lady who adopts a small hairless dog thinking it’s a chihuahua and then she takes it to the vet and it turns out it’s actually a giant rat. That’s not a particularly scary story, right? We’ve all heard that story as a cheesy joke. So why is it included in a collection of stories designed specifically to freak the shit out of small children?

This is the illustration that accompanied that story:

Edited to add: Whoops, I originally said “Helquist,” not Gammell.

HELL TO THE FUCKING NO

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING

I have two tattoos from this series on my left leg. Kim Saigh did them. We had to contact Gammell for permission and he LOVINGLY GAVE IT.

this shit is downright fucking blasphemy

why isn’t the pope on this shit

WHAT THE FUCK EVEN. CLEARLY THE APOCALYPSE IS MOTHERFUCKING NIGH.

I mean, the art is WHY they were fucking scary to beginwith. UG.
